How to make your own Minecraft PE skin

You do not need an app to make a skin - the editor here runs in the browser and exports the exact PNG Minecraft wants. Start from scratch, from a base skin, or from a photo.

  1. Open the editor Open the skin editor. It gives you the flat 64x64 layout with each body part laid out, plus the second (overlay) layer for hair and hats.
  2. Start from a base, not a blank Load a Steve or Alex base and change it - it is much faster than filling 64x64 empty pixels, and the proportions are already right.
  3. Or turn a photo into a skin To build a face or a character from an image, run it through the avatar maker first, then bring the result into the editor to tidy the edges.
A photo never maps perfectly to 8x8 face pixels - expect to hand-fix the eyes and mouth afterwards.
  4. Export the PNG Save the skin as a PNG. Keep it at 64x64 (or 128x128 for an HD skin) - Bedrock rejects other sizes.
  5. Import and equip In Minecraft: Dressing Room → Classic Skins → Choose New Skin, pick your PNG, choose the arm width, and Equip.
